Saturday, July 19 – Tudor City Tours
Explore this landmark district that set the tone for 20th-century residential development worldwide. Historian Brian Thompson will discuss the financing and architectural choices that led to the development of 3,000 apartments and two private parks, including some of New York City’s earliest studio apartments and pied-a-terres built en masse, between Grand Central Station, 42nd Street and the United Nations.

Tours will be offered at 11 am and 1 pm on Saturday, July 19. Purchase tickets here. 

Saturday, July 19 - New Museum Block Party 2008

Join OHNY Kids! at the New Museum Block Party 2008, a free day of art activities and performances on Saturday July 19 from 12 - 7 pm in Sara D. Roosevelt Park, on the Lower East Side.

Enjoy a range of interactive projects and programs with artists and neighborhood community organizations and tour the 2008 Altoids Award exhibition at the New Museum . Stop by the OHNY Kids! booth to design and create a site-specific sculpture for Sara D. Roosevelt Park.

Marcel Breuer House Tour at Pocantico
Tuesday, August 19

openhousenewyork is thrilled to present its first program outside of New York City! Travel to the Pocantico Historic Area on the Rockefeller Estate in Tarrytown, New York, for unique access to the Marcel Breuer's 1949 House in a Museum Garden, typically closed to the public.

Barry Bergdoll, Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art http://www.moma.org/and curator of MoMA's current exhibition on prefabricated housing, Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling, will lead a lecture and small group tours of the Marcel Breuer house. Originally built as part of a 1949 exhibition at MoMA, the Breuer House exemplifies the architect's vision of how the average American family could live in a well-designed, modern, expandable, and affordable home.

Tickets include a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception in the beautifully restored Coach Barn.

OHNY offers bus transportation leaving from Manhattan at 5pm on Tuesday, August 19, returning from Pocantico to midtown at 9 pm. Space is limited. Purchase tickets here, or contact events@ohny.org.

June- SculptureCenter
SculptureCenter Executive Director Mary Ceruti, curator Catherine Morris and architectural historian William Menking led an exhibition tour of Decoys, Complexes, and Triggers: Feminism and Land Art in the 1970s. 
SculptureCenter is a not-for-profit museum dedicated to experimental and innovative developments in contemporary sculpture, housed in a former trolley repair shop in Long Island City, redesigned by artist/architect Maya Lin.

June- Governors Island Walking Tour

openhousenewyork, the Governors Island Preservation & Education Corporation (GIPEC) and Rogers Marvel Architects led a guided tour exploring Governors Island’s rich past and plans for its future park.

Explore the island's historic district and discuss plans for its exciting future with GIPEC's President, Leslie Koch, and Vice President for Planning, Design and Preservation, Betty Chen, along with members of the architecture and landscape team designing the future park and open spaces on Governors Island.

June- openhousenewyork Kids! in Brooklyn
Partnering with the Center for Architecture Foundation and Lefferts Historic House, OHNY Kids! presented free hands-on workshops about color, shape and texture in Prospect Park taught by built environment educator, Jane Cowan.

May- Green Walking Tour of Lower Manhattan
Bob Gelber, founder of Walkin’ NY led a tour of Lower Manhattan’s open spaces, waterfronts and environmentally friendly commercial, residential and retail buildings, including a tour of the Riverhouse, courtesy of the Sheldrake Organization.

April- Architectural Photography Workshops
Elliott Kaufman, widely published and experienced architectural photographer and faculty member at the International Center for Photography, led two architectural photography workshops based on the techniques and approaches of photographing some of Brooklyn's most interesting buildings and spaces.

March- Tom Otterness Studio Tour
On Sunday, March 16, bring the entire family for a tour of artist Tom Otterness’ Brooklyn studio. View his new work as he discusses his whimsical and socially contemplative bronze sculptures seen in many public spaces throughout the city.

January- EverGreene Plaster Studio Tour
openhousenewyork launched its 2008 year round programs on with a tour of the EverGreene plaster studio in DUMBO. EverGreene's craftsmen discussed their integration of state-of-the-art conservation techniques with traditional craftsmanship in historic plasterwork restoration and creating new designs.

2007

November- A History of Lower Manhattan
Pentagram Design, Wall Street Rising and architect and author James Sanders presented a history of Lower Manhattan using Pentagram’s 12-foot, interactive architectural model of the area that incorporates video projections, photographs, text and voiceover.

July- Countdown to Downtown: New Museum Family Day
OHNY joined the New Museum of Contemporary Art for the second Annual Countdown to Downtown: New Museum Family Day. OHNY educators led activities in which children imagined, designed and built models of their ideal neighborhood playgrounds.

June- Tudor City Tours
Tudor City Tours, led by resident historians, highlighted Fred F. French's design and planning of some of New York City's earliest studio apartments and pied-a-terres built en masse.

Tudor City Talk and Tour, presented by resident historians,Gauer & Marron Studio and L'Impero Restaurant, showcased interior designer James Gauer's Tudor City studio and his creative design solutions for small homes within this historic neighborhood, followed by a reception at in Tudor City's hidden Italian restaurant, I'Impero.

May- Gansevoort Market in Transition
A behind the scenes walking tour Gansevoort Market in Transition within the Meatpacking District, one of New York City's hottest and most historic neighborhoods.  Presented by the Meatpacking District Initiative.

April- Times Square: Peeling Back the Neon & From Working Seaport to Living City
Walking tours of Times Square, Peeling Back the Neon by the Times Square Alliance took a look at a century of design in Times Square. OHNY Kids! walking tour and scavenger hunt, From Working Seaport to Living City offered families an afternoon of exploration at the South Street Seaport.  Kids identified how historic and modern buildings work together to create new spaces and who makes these projects possible.
